In South African slang Mahala means free, for nothing, at no cost.

In Hebrew, Arabic, and some Native American languages, Mahala is a girl's name meaning "woman" or "tenderness".

Mahala is also the Romany word for the ghettoes surrounding Bucharest, Romania.

Mahalo is a divine blessing in Hawaiian, one of the two most important words in the language along, with aloha, very sacred and powerful, meaning literally: "in the presence of the divine breath".
